Native to the forests of India, Myanmar and Thailand, teak is a light-coloured wood with yellow, beige, bronze and sometimes reddish streaks. It contains an oily resin that makes it very durable, and can withstand weathering and humidity, which are severely testing conditions for any other kind of wood.
These features make Teak highly suitable for boat building and flooring, and also one of the most valuable and expensive woods available. Its cultivation is strictly controlled precisely for these reasons.
