Ebony is a precious, dense hardwood with contrasting grain patterns, resistant to the weather and to moulds. Native to the forests of Africa and Asia, it has been used to make particularly precious items of furniture, sculptures, and luxury panelling and musical instruments. Due to its over-exploitation, ebony is considered in danger of extinction.
